President George W. Bush

President Bush has again called for a lasting, sustainable cease-fire in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon.
Mr. Bush said during a visit to Miami, Florida Monday that Iran and Syria must end their support for terror groups, such as Hezbollah.
However, the president continues to resist growing international calls for an immediate cease-fire, and avoided criticizing Israel.
Earlier today in Jerusalem, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she believes a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah can be reached this week.
Rice said she will call for a U.N. resolution this week on the ceasefire, as well as establishment of an international stabilization force for Lebanon.
Also today, the U.N. Security Council extended the mandate of the U.N. peacekeeping force in Lebanon by one month to allow more time for talks on establishing a new international force for the country.
Senior officials in Russia and France are calling for Israel's 48-hour pause in aerial bombing to be expanded to a full and immediate ceasefire.
French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin says Israel's decision to stop bombing Hezbollah targets is a first step, but that it does not go far enough.
Sunday, the U.N. Security Council expressed its "extreme shock and distress" at the Israeli air strike that killed scores of Lebanese civilians in Qana.
