European Markets Mostly Lower at Midday
European stock markets were mostly lower in midday trading Friday.
London's Financial Times 100 index was down a quarter of a percent , to 5,279. The CAC-40 in Paris was down three-tenths of a percent , to 3,066. And the DAX in Frankfurt was up slightly , at 5,648.
The S&P futures contract was down three points, indicating a lower opening for U.S. markets.
In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index gained one percent , to close at 8,605.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index climbed 3.11 percent , to end at 17,707.
Gold was trading at $1,654.10 an ounce.
The U.S. dollar slipped against other major currencies.
