Suicide Blast Kills 11 in Somali Capital

A suicide car bomb attack in Somalia＇s capital, Mogadishu, has killed at least 11 people and wounded 35.

The country＇s main insurgent group, al-Shabab, claimed responsibility for the blast Monday at a police training camp.

Police say the dead include four suicide bombers and a number of policemen, and Somalia＇s information ministry says two children aged 10 and 11 were among those killed.

Authorities say a car packed with explosives came speeding toward the police station Monday morning. Police opened fire on the vehicle and it blew up just before reaching the station gate.

Al-Shabab is trying to overthrow the Somali government, which is backed by African Union troops. Fighting in the capital has killed and wounded thousands of people over the past few years.

Somalia has experienced 20 years of war and chaos since the overthrow of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
