Abhisit Vejjajiva is facing pressure to bring the protests to an end

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva says he is ready to hold elections on 14 November to end a tense stand-off with opposition "red-shirt" protesters.

He said any election would be subject to certain conditions under his reconciliation "road map".

The red-shirt supporters have been protesting in Bangkok since 14 March, paralysing parts of the Thai capital.

They say Mr Abhisit's government is not legitimate, and have sought elections within three months.

It is not clear whether they will accept the prime minister's latest offer, which was made in a live, televised speech.

Mr Abhisit had previously offered to hold elections in December, a year early.

He is under intense pressure to bring the protests to an end, as economic losses mount.
